About: Yacht Computer and Communications Support and Consulting Agreements for Yachts and other Marine Vessels

Here at Alan Spicer Marine Telecom I started offering “Support Agreements” to my clients a couple of years ago. Most of them prior to this year had been after a project was already completed. That means after a particular Communications System was installed on a yacht that came with typically 90 days Telephone and Email Support on it. Several yachts had taken advantage of this in the last couple of years.

It also seemed that this was expanding to some Remote Consulting Projects, whereby I consulted for New Customers on Yachts for existing or New Systems. It also seems to have evolved to include consulting for several yachts that want to Do-It-Yourself for Communications, Computer, Networking, and Internet Access Systems designed and supported by me. In at least a couple of cases Existing Computer Networking and Internet Access Systems on vessels were re-designed or problems corrected by me.

Many of my Systems and Networking Designs (Internet Access and Sharing Systems) are “Proprietary” to me. I get a lot of calls asking what can be done, and how it can be done. I often write quotes or estimates for projects. Lately I’ve been trying to expand upon the quote system and more fully integrate it with the Consulting and Support Agreement system. Many of my customers were installing their own aerial (antenna) systems anyway and routing coaxial cables through the vessel where needed. I was installing the inside routers and wireless access points and configuring these equipments and designing the network. I source all the equipment at cost, and provide forwarding/shipping where necessary to the site of the vessel. So therefore it seems that I can offer the Complete “Kit” or System very often without ever having to set foot onboard a yacht. I can also provide the extended support needed to maintain an onboard network and Internet Access Systems that are much needed. I can also provide support for those “Gotcha”’s like one of my yacht customers that was handed a Cable Modem in a Marina for Free Include Internet Access with the Dockage Fees. I design and implement systems with “Standards” Based gear and methods, which does what? Allows Expandability and Flexibility in such situations. Throttling over to other optional types of Internet Access, or being able to work with “What’s Available” is an important part of a Yachts Onboard Network and Internet Access Systems.

So now I’m able to offer Installation Support and ongoing Computer and Communications Systems Support for Yachts and Marine Vessels regardless of their current location or time of year. I offer these agreements by the year.  That includes helping you with the initial installation/implementation and includes design and documentation where necessary.  (“That’s just not done Old Boy!”) Yes it is! There are a few levels of support that can be purchased:

(Initial Gear Install Support Agreement, “NEW Systems Design” is a minimum Gold Level Consulting Agreement)

Ø      Silver Level – 1 year consulting and support agreement with a maximum 24 hour response time.

Ø      Gold Level – 1 year consulting and support agreement with a maximum 8 hour response time.

Ø      Platinum Level – 1 year consulting and support agreement with a maximum 4 hour response time.

Savings can obviously be had with increasingly longer response times. The most popular is the Silver Level. These are Telephone, Email, and Skype based Consulting and Support Agreements. They include 1 onboard visit 1 hour in the local area here around Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The pricings are quite reasonable. Please call me and ask about them.

Welcome to Pre-Paid Yacht Computer/Communications Consulting and Support Agreements by the year, from:

This is Alan Spicer Marine Telecom Co. which is a Computer, Communications, and Computer Networking Service Company near Fort Lauderdale Florida specializing in the Sailing and Motor Yacht Industry. Our contact information is below.

It's the best deal of all. You get 1 year of general Marine Communications/Computer/Networking consulting and support with no more invoices. You could even do-it-yourself on one of the quoted systems and have it covered by the agreement. Do you want to do a WiFi Internet Access Amplifier System and share the Internet onboard and have my support of setting it up "covered" by phone and email? Do you want to do a Cellular High Speed Internet Amplifier and Sharing onboard? Do you want to do both? Do you need to share VSAT or BGAN or Fleet Broadband? I'll help you get the right stuff and install it yourself. And it will be fully supported on “Agreement”.

It's kind of like PRE-PAID LEGAL... ala PRE-PAID CONSULTING/SUPPORT. Some consider it an Insurance Policy for Computer/Communications Problems or Projects. And it doesn't just cover computer... it also covers things like SSB Radio, VHF Marine Radio, Navigation Software on Computer, Telephone (Fax) by Satellite/Cellular/Voice over IP-Internet, etc... Computer File and Printer Sharing...

My List of some of my Consulting/Support Agreement Customers is as follows:

MY Carpe Diem (WiFi, Cellular Verizon, and more + 1 yr. support agreement.)

MY Cinnabar VI (renewal 2nd renewal, 3rd year total on 1 yr. consulting/support agreement.)

MY Lady Ann (just called me from Baltimore Inner Harbor Marine Center – New 1 yr. consulting/support agreement.)

MY Distraction (Remote consulting, located Italy – Mediterranean 1 yr. consulting/support agreement.)

MY Olga (WiFi Amp install customer + 1 year support agreement)

MY Never Say Never (WiFi Amp install customer + 1 year agreement)

MY Obsidian (WiFi, F55 Satellite, 2 laptops serviced, 1 year support agreement)

S/Y Hayfu II (Still under construction Tri-hull S/Y in Canada – Installation Support – 1 yr support agreement.)

M/Y Summer Nights (Cellular, WiFi, general computer, + 1 yr support agreement.)

I provide both on site and remote consulting and support for those that want to "Do It Yourself" for the installation of the WiFi Yacht Kit and Onboard Network. We'll design it and help you through the process of installing it and integrating it into an onboard network with wireless access onboard for all areas where you need it.

Onboard "Wireless Zones" can be created for laptops to access "Shared Internet Access" all around the yacht. These "Wireless Zones" can often be linked wirelessly without the need to run additional wires or cable through the yacht.

It's not a matter of just throwing some WiFi Box and Antenna into the boat and hoping that it works... You will be fully supported through the design, implementation, and testing; as well as the Life Cycle (Lifetime) of the WiFi System and Onboard Network. You can opt for hourly support and consulting fees, or a Once a Year (very fairly priced) Support Agreement that will let you get help via Email, Telephone, Skype, etc. All Year Long. That means... When it doesn't work in a Certain Marina you can call for assistance. When you need to connect your Yacht Network another way (ask Captain Bryan Whitney of M/Y Maximus II about Cable Modem Internet in Mexico!) such as a wired CAT5, DSL, or Cable Modem; you'll get the timely help and support that you need. You might even want to link wirelessly (bridge a connection) to your owners Home DSL or Cable Modem Connection if you dock behind the owners’ house. But then you want to sail to the Bahamas or the Caribbean or Up North, or The Mediterranean; and it still has to work!

When the WiFi Yacht Kit doesn't work in a certain marina, we'll find out why and solve the problem if it's at all possible. This kind of flexibility and ongoing support is almost unheard of in the industry. We don't Leave You Hanging. We're "Virtually" Right There With You. We also help you with your general computer problems and the myriad of things that go along with a WiFi Yacht Network Onboard. Such things as Printers and File Sharing and Voice over IP such as Skype or Vonage.

You might want to know that we're also quite capable of helping you with other Internet Access Systems. In fact we recommend having more than one way. So Internet Satellite by Inmarsat (Fleet, BGAN, etc.) and VSAT are also supported. Internet Cellular by common Laptop High Speed Internet Cards and Services are also supported. We can help integrate multiple Internet Access Systems into your Yacht Network.

This all probably sounds like a Sales Pitch. Well it is! But it's also a passion by the owner of WiFi Yacht - Alan Spicer Marine Telecom. A passion where we like to make things work. We love solving problems. We love helping you out wherever you go with your yacht.

Thanks for stopping by and please don't hesitate to contact me.

Do you need a Router installation for a Motor Yacht?

Alan Spicer Telecom has installed many systems for Inmarsat Satellite, VSAT, WiFi, and Cellular Internet systems on yachts. If you need this type of setup installed on a yacht please see the contact information below. Remote installation consulting and assistance is also available if you are not in the local area but still need to get this done. Everything needed will be sent to you and support arranged to make sure that it works on your vessel. Call or Email for a Quote/Estimate on this.

Instructions, Documentation, and Support

I provide complete documentation on all jobs, including a diagram of how the system is connected and configured. Instructions are included in this project documentation. I provide technical support by email and/or telephone for installations.

Other Projects

I have worked on over 60 Yachts since 2004. These Internet and Onboard Networking Systems are working every day on many yachts. In 2007 (and going forward) I now consult on a full range of money saving Internet/Voice/Fax/Communications areas for the marine environment. Please contact by phone or email if you would like some advice or consultation.

Please visit my web site on: http://www.marinetelecom.net for further information on services that I can provide.

Many guys can plug in a network and hopefully it works on your yacht. Far fewer understand how networks work and can help you when they don't work. I like to believe I'm one of those few...
